Student Guide to MyLearningcenter.netMy Learningcenter is a web site created to make it easy for you to create writing projects. With eWrite, you can add pictures and web links to your work. Your teacher grades your work online and publishes it on the web when it is done. Others cannot see your grade or name. Only your teacher can see that information. If you are doing a research report, use Quicklinks to help you find information on web sites. Your teacher will add the links for you. Should you want to contact your teacher by e-mail, you can find an e-mail link on your teacher's Quicklinks page. If you are new to MyLearningcenter, your teacher will teach you how to use the web site in class before you do an assignment. Rules to Follow: When working online, just as in the classroom, there are a few rules to keep in mind. 1. Stay on task. If you have been given web links to visit, just go to those sites unless your teacher wants you to search the web for information. Be careful where you click on the web; many advertisements are disguised. Do not give your name or e-mail to anyone on the web. For searching, use the search engine your teacher recommends. 2. Write about what you could share in class. Once your teacher publishes your work (let's others see it on the web), others can read your work. As a rule of thumb write things that you would feel comfortable about sharing to others in class. Your teacher will be reviewing your work; so use appropriate language. 3. Think about comments you may write to your teacher. If you write comments to your teacher in your writing, avoid jokes and comments that could be misunderstood. After all, your teacher cannot see your face to know if you are joking. Show the same respect online as you should in person. 4. Do your best work. Check your facts when writing a research report. Follow directions given to you by your teacher in class when writing first drafts, editing your work and polishing your final writing. You can use the online spell checker in the research tools to check spelling. Getting Help: Your teacher will teach you how to use the web site. You can ask your teacher questions in your online writing by adding a comment to your writing. Your teacher may provide an e-mail link with her Quicklinks. In many cases, you can wait until the next day of class to ask your teacher questions.
