Biography
Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30th 1853 in Groot-Zundert, Holland with a family of 5-- 3 girls, 3 boys, not including himself. The third died at birth. His name was also Vincent Van Gogh. He went to school at a boarding school at Jan Povily in Zevenbergen, then to the state Secondary School King Willem II at Tilburg. Vincent began to draw the coal miners and their families. It was during this time that Vincent van Gogh chose to be an artist. His styles were landscapes, portraits, interiors, still life and cityscapes, and used many bright colors.
Before he was an artist he was a clerk at a book store. When he was in his late twenties he started painting. He decided to become an artist between 1860 and 1880. For a very short time Vincent Van Gogh studied in Brussels, Antwerp, and Paris. He also studied privately with Anton Mauve a Dutch painter. His career ended on his tenth year of panting when he died at the age of thirty-seven. In 1885 he completes his first masterpiece and large-scale composition The Potato Eaters. He was friends with Paul Gauguin.
In his most productive year, Vincent Van Gogh shot himself, but didn't die until two days later at age 37 on July 29, 1890. Theo, Vincent’s brother died six months later. In a short period of time Vincent Van Gogh finished 900 paintings.
