Biography
Bright Sheng was born in Shanghai 1955. He started playing piano at age four with his mother. He started working on second ballet from Peter Martins at New York City ballet. He is a composer of stage, orchestral, chamber and vocal works. He has performed all around the world and is an active conductor and pianist. He studied the art of composing at the Conservatory of music in Shanghai from 1978-82.
Style
Bright Sheng is a very unique composer. He has created many outstanding pieces consisting of mostly classical music and piano symphonies. The president once invited him to visit the White House for a state dinner because of his unique style. Most citizens adore Sheng’s music. The New York Times reported “Sheng’s style is an exquisite blend of the musical East and west… the orchestra writing is brilliant.” Sheng is normally informed for his stunning speed and attention to detail when composing. He is also famous for his dramatic style. Works Some of his works are the "Silver River", "May I Feel", and "Never Far Away.
