Biography
Diego Rivera was born in Guanajata, Mexico on December 8, 1886. He grew up with two older twins, a mom and a dad. Diego’s parents took care of poor people and that helped the way he painted.

Diego was a great artist and a very famous person. Diego Rivera became an artist at the age of 20. Rivera also traveled to Spain, France, and England. Diego Rivera loved to draw large pictures such as murals. He also drew cubist style pictures. His work included bold colors. Diego went to San Carlos School of Fine Arts.
In 1892 the family moved to Mexico City, where Rivera's father worked for the Mexican Government. Young Rivera studied at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City from 1898-1905. In 1906, Rivera exhibited 26 works at San Carlos Academy. Rivera lived in Europe for 14 years between 1907 and 1921. Then Rivera broke from Pablo Picasso and Cubists.
In 1930, Rivera began his work on his first major American commissions. Rivera was instrumental in obtaining political asylum for Leon Trotsky. Eventually a series of personal and political conflicts developed between Rivera
Diego Rivera became an artist at the age of 20. Also, he traveled to Spain, England, and France to work too. He was interested in murals for some time. Sometimes, he asked people to make self portraits of him. Some of his paintings he made when he was young are Diego Rivera Self- Portrait, The Arsenal, and Man at the Crossroads.

Diego Rivera studied art at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. He was able to get money to continue his study. After arrival in Europe in 1907, Rivera initially went to study with Eduardo Chicharro in Madrid, Spain, and from there went to Paris, France, to live and work with the great gathering of artists in Montparnasse, especially at La Ruche, where his friend Amedo Modigliani painted.

Diego Rivera later work was very sympathetic. His work, "Man, Controller of the Universe", painted on a wall in the new Rockefeller Plaza in New York, was destroyed because it had pictures of communist leaders in it. Rivera later made a similar mural for Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, an opera house, in 1934. He was well known for painting large murals.
