Biography

Aaron Jay Kernis was born on January 15, 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was mostly a self taught musician. He lived in Philadelphia for his childhood and birth.  He studied the violin at age 12 and began teaching himself piano. When he grew up he studied music in San Francisco, Manhattan, and Yale. He was inspired to study and become a musician by his teachers.  He studied music at Yale school of music. One of his teachers is Morton Subonick. He is one of the pioneers in development of electronic music and multi-media performance. He continued his studies at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, in Manhattan.

After being an composer for a short time, he won the Pulitzer prize. St. Paul Pioneer Press, wrote, “Kernis is a composer of fastidious technique and wide-ranging imagination.” 

Aaron Jay Kernis is a very talented composer! He is a very hard worker and always gives 100% all the time! One of his songs was Dream of Morning Sky. In 2002 he created Colored Field and in 1989 he created Symphony in waves. I think Aaron Jay Kernis is one of the best composers I know!

Works

In 1983 his First breakthrough when Dream of the Morning Sky. Critics liked it and he became a rising star. Some songs he wrote were strings in 1990 and he wrote Simple Songs in 1991.
