C. Stake your claim! A miner put sticks in the ground to mark a gold claim. No one else could mine there; it belonged to him. When an area was very crowded, the largest claim a miner could stake was a 10 foot by 10 foot square. If a blanket was laid on the site, it was called a "blanket claim." |
