B. Right! These remarkable and flexible hats are hand woven out of straw from palm leaves in Ecuador. The town of Jipijapa is famous for its style of Panama Hats. Sid Fleischman decided to use the name "Jipijapa" instead of "Panama" in his book because of its jolly sound!

This is Sid Fleischman wearing a Jipijapa hat in Weaverville. He was fresh out of High School when he learned to pan for gold. At the time this picture was taken, he had no idea that he would later write a book about the Gold Rush.
