C. Yes! As a matter of fact, the word "galápagos" means
tortoise in Spanish.
The giant tortoise is so big that you can ride on its back. Before these
tortoises became protected by strict laws, navigators captured them for
food. The giant tortoises tasted delicious. They were stacked on their
backs on top of each other in the ship's hold and could be kept alive
for a year.
Also found on the Galápagos:
-
The only penguins found on the equator.
- Prickly pears as tall as trees.
